Four new wheel loaders for Hermitage Quarry

Hitachi ZW370 wheel loader

Kent-based Gallagher Aggregates take delivery of first Hitachi ZW370 wheel loaders in the UK

GALLAGHER Aggregates Ltd, the Kent-based quarrying firm, have recently taken delivery of four brand new Hitachi ZW370 wheel loaders for operations at Hermitage Quarry, near Maidstone.

Replacing machines from a number of other manufacturers, the ZW370’s are the first Hitachi wheel loaders of this size in the UK and their arrival means that Hermitage Quarry’s mobile plant fleet is now almost 100% Hitachi, with the exception of the site’s dumptrucks.

Powered by a six-cylinder Isuzu 6WG1 engine which develops 289kW (388hp) at 1,800 rev/min, the 34-tonne ZW370 offers bucket capacities from 4.8 to 5.6 cubic metres and breakout forces from 223kN to 261kN, while static tipping load (straight) with the standard lift arm is from 24,060kg to 25,100kg.

Easier to manoeuvre than the previous model, the new ZW370 is said to be extremely quick and efficient on the job site. It has been equipped with the latest hydraulics and gearshift systems, to help boost productivity levels. The wheel loader also complies with the latest EU regulations on emission standards and is said to be more fuel-efficient than the previous version.

Moreover, with enhanced all-round visibility from the cab, the ZW370 contributes to a safer working environment, as operators have an improved view of the job site and other construction machinery at work nearby.

The new wheel loader also promises to deliver high levels of productivity and availability thanks to a variety of new features that make routine maintenance and cleaning simple to carry out. For example, daily checks can be made at ground level as the engine and radiator cover can be opened fully, providing convenient access.

The new Hitachi wheel loaders are part of Gallagher Aggregates’ ongoing programme of investment in the most modern and up-to-date plant and machinery, in order to optimize both efficiency and reliability at their Kentish Ragstone site.

As part of its investment programme, the company has also purchased a new drill rig for the quarry, a new crusher, two grab lorries, a number of new road tippers and two new concrete mixers to enhance its current fleet.
