First Volvo B-series excavator in Scotland
The very first Volvo B-series excavator, a 46-tonne EC460BLC, to head north of the border has been purchased by Leiths (Scotland) Ltd and has been put to work within the company’s contract crushing division.
The machine’s primary duties are feeding a mobile crusher with blasted granite, taking over from its predecessor, a Volvo EC450. The EC460B has undergone a few modifications to handle the operation including a heavy-duty 20mm belly plate, 600mm double-grouser track plates, FOPS protection and catwalks.
‘We have a good deal of experience with Volvo products, especially loading shovels and excavators, and continue to be impressed by the consistently high level of realibility and availability,’ said managing director Ian Leith. ‘Product support is just as important and Volvo provide a superb after-market support to us, so choosing the latest 46-tonne model from the new Volvo excavator range was the natural choice.’
