First Volvo 946G AWD delivered in UK

The Forestry Commission has become the first UK recipient of the new Volvo 946G AWD motor grader, which was launched at the beginning of the year. Bringing the total number of Volvo graders in the Commission’s fleet to 13, the 946G AWD is powered by a 7-litre variable-power, low-emission engine with brake horsepower ranging between 175 and 195, while maximum torque is 1,073Nm at 1,500 rev/min.

The engine complements the latest Volvo HTE840 transmission for power under load and as load changes. With eight forward and four reverse speeds, the transmission can provide the correct speed for a range of operations, such as high-speed road maintenance, snow-ploughing and for running on the road at a maximum speed of 45kph.

The 946G AWD has an operating weight of 21.7 tonnes, a maximum blade pull of 16,675kg and a blade down pressure of 8,495kg.
