First ever CEMEX global aggregates conference
Thirty eight delegates from 14 countries gather in Manchester to discuss key issues and share best practice
THE first ever CEMEX global aggregates conference took place in Manchester and included a visit to CEMEX’s largest UK quarry – Dove Holes, in Buxton, Derbyshire.
A total of 38 delegates from 14 countries took part in the event to discuss key issues of health and safety, operations, and commerce and trading.
The delegates also reviewed global and local markets and the latest developments within both the industry and CEMEX.
The key objective of the two-day conference was to share best practice, providing delegates with an invaluable opportunity to network with colleagues from around the world.
Health and safety was top of the agenda with UK health & safety director Andy Taylor discussing, among other topics, the success of the UK’s ‘visible felt leadership’ (VFL) programme. He emphasized the importance of VFL in achieving an interdependent team safety culture.
According to Mr Taylor, to date this year a total of 3,202 VFL visits have been made by senior management, resulting in 6,900 safety conversations across the CEMEX UK business.
Speaking at the conference, Lex Russell, vice-president aggregates, said: ‘As one of the top five aggregates producers in the world with operations in many countries, collaboration and sharing best practice is essential.
‘This conference is an excellent opportunity for colleagues to get an insight into some of the excellent work being carried out within CEMEX.’
