First Caterpillar PM200 cold planer delivered in India

Gmmco, India’s largest Cat dealers, have sold another cold planer to contractors Ashwini Infra Developments (AID) for the milling and resurfacing of a secondary runway at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai – India’s largest airport.

AID already own a Cat PM102 and opted for the PM200 because of their confidence in Caterpillar machines and the good customer service provided by Gmmco. But more importantly, the PM200 cold planer was acquired for its efficiency and reliability.

The secondary runway reconstruction project requires adherence to a very strict timeline; the crews are only allowed to work on the runway during overnight hours, so any machine breakdown could result in the complete abandonment of plans.

AID decided that a larger milling machine – the PM200 – was needed to work in tandem with the PM102, which would help them to meet the runway project’s stringent timeline.

‘The PM200 responds to all types of cuts and handles them easily,’ commented Rajesh Ghanekar, one of the crew members working on the runway reconstruction project. ‘The milled surface texture is excellent…levels are maintained, resulting in very few or almost no second passes for the same cut. We feel the machine is productive and we now have the confidence to take on heavier milling jobs in the future.’

Equipped with a Cat C18 engine with ACERT technology, the PM200 provides ample power for the most demanding milling applications, while maintaining high operational efficiency through its clean burning power.

The machine has a 2m milling width, features a rotor equipped with 178 six-sided carbide-tipped tools and quick-release conical tool holders and employs a wet clutch that delivers horsepower to each cutting tool. Its dual water spray keeps dust to a minimum and helps reduce its environmental impact.
