Firms acquitted

Midland Quarry Products and Merrimans Ltd have both been formally cleared of breaching health and safety regulations following an incident in which a consulting engineer was crushed to death by a dumptruck at Cliffe Hill Quarry in May 1999.

Verdicts of not guilty were entered by a Leicester Crown Court judge who concluded that the jury could not be expected to consider verdicts based on the evidence presented to them.
