Volvo truck makes UK and Ireland construction industry show debut at Hillhead 2012

The Volvo FH16-750 makes its UK and Ireland construction industry show debut on the Volvo Construction Equipment stand at Hillhead 2012 where a 6x2 tractor unit will be on display together with two high-spec Volvo FMX 8x4 tippers.

The joint display of construction equipment and trucks emphasises that Volvo are able to meet construction operators’ needs with a total transport and productivity solution.

Volvo Trucks UK & Ireland managing director Göran Nyberg said that the Hillhead Show is a unique showcase for Volvo’s construction industry offering. ‘Volvo are unique in that no other manufacturer can deliver the kind of experience we do for the UK and Irish construction industry by looking after the needs of operators of both machinery and trucks. We have trucks for all sectors in the construction industry, from quarrying to heavy haulage and low loader work.

‘We supply many well-known construction industry operators, from independent family firms to global companies, with rugged, durable, fuel-efficient trucks. Our UK and Ireland dealer network is strong and works very closely with Volvo Construction Equipment with the emphasis on delivering optimum up-time and productivity. This means that we can provide a total solution for operators requiring on- or on/off-road construction, quarrying, demolition and recycling duties.’

For example, the FH16, which is available at 540, 600, 700 and 750hp engine power outputs, is already proving a big hit with heavy haulage and low-loader operators such as AR Demolition, C J Leonard & Sons Ltd, Greenwood Hire, Collins Earthworks and Heanor Heavy Haulage.

With its ability to be plated for road-going operations at up to 150-tonnes gross operating weight (STGO Cat3), the FH16-750 offers Europe’s most powerful solution for construction operators needing to haul machines and plant.

Heavy haulage versions of the FH16-750 are also available in 6x4 and 8x4 tractor configurations. With the 16-litre D16G engine delivering 3,550Nm of torque, the FH16-750 provides impressive pulling power and the ability to maintain legal road speeds on typical gradients at all plated operating weights.

This makes it an extremely productive truck for heavy haulage and low-loader applications - and it includes all the safety and environmental features you expect from Volvo.

Volvo’s 16-litre D16G Engine and After Treatment System (EATS) have been optimized for handling the higher performance. This has been achieved with a fixed geometry turbo, resulting in the capability to deliver good fuel economy.

The new generation, reinforced, AT03512D I-Shift automated transmission is also available with the D16 engine at Euro-5 and EEV emissions standards.

In addition to the flagship FH16-750, the spotlight at Hillhead is also firmly on the two FMX eight wheeler tippers that are also on display on the Volvo CE stand. Premiered at Hillhead in 2010, the FMX has gained a loyal following among muckaway operators in particular and tipper operators in general for its rugged specification and payload friendly productivity. All backed up by Volvo’s extensive dealer network.

The FMX is available with a choice of either the 11-litre D11C at 330, 370, 410 and 450hp power outputs or the D13C 13-litre engine rated at 380, 420, 460 or even 500hp. I-Shift is available too as is a choice of gross vehicle weights from 18 to 48 tonnes (depending on application and specification).
