Fatal incident at Burford Quarry

Quarry worker dies of his injuries following industrial accident at Burford Quarry in Oxfordshire

A QUARRY worker was fatally injured last weekend in an industrial accident at the Oxfordshire site where he worked.

Site foreman Les Hole died of his injuries on Saturday following the incident at Smiths Bletchington’s Burford Quarry, near Brize Norton.

According to The Oxford Times, Mr Hole was flown to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford by air ambulance on Saturday morning, but was later pronounced dead after attempts to resuscitate him failed.

In the local newspaper, Andrew Smith, joint managing director of Smiths Bletchington, described Mr Hole as a well-respected employee and colleague who had worked for the company since 1989.

‘Our immediate concern is for Les’s wife, children and close family,’ said Mr Smith. ‘Our heartfelt condolences go to them, and they are very much in our thoughts.’

He added: ‘Les was also a popular man in the local community, particularly through his sporting activities, and our sympathies are also with all those many friends that will be saddened by his loss.’

The Health and Safety Executive is investigating the incident.
