Employee noise and dust exposure monitoring

Vibrock Ltd, the independent consultancy specializing in vibration, noise and dust monitoring, have over the last few years purchased a large number of personal sound-exposure metres (dosemetres) and body-worn dust pumps. As a result, Vibrock are now able to simultaneously monitor up to 30 personnel at a time for personal exposure to noise and dust.

Having this capability allows precise, yet rapid monitoring of workers, resulting in considerable cost savings for the employer. The equipment allows monitoring in full compliance with Noise at Work and the relevant COSHH regulations.

Weighing just 30g, the noise dose badges are designed to be worn on a collar or lapel. Being small and lightweight they are barely noticeable to the wearer and therefore less likely to be tampered with. Consequently, results from noise dose badges are likely to be more accurate and realistic than the results from bulkier dose metres.

The latest generation of noise and dust pumps provide a time history of the exposure of an individual employee to noise and dust, allowing identification of particular areas or tasks which generate increased levels. This provides the information necessary to implement engineering or suppression solutions to reduce the exposure level.
