EMN Plant Ltd choose Volvo machines again
Earthmoving contractors add EC140D and EC27C excavators to its tracked machinery fleet
SHETLAND-based EMN Plant Ltd have added yet more Volvo excavators to their 30-strong fleet of tracked machines. According to EMN Plant director Ellis Nicolson, one of the key factors that persuaded the company to purchase the machines from Volvo was the high-quality after-sales support it receives.
‘We’ve been adding Volvo excavators and mini-diggers to the fleet since 2010 with the EC140D and EC27C models being the most recent additions,’ said Mr Nicolson. ‘The reason for continuing to do so is due to the level of support we enjoy from Volvo CE and in particular Neil Bruce, their mobile engineer for the far north of Scotland.’
The EC140D is powered by a Volvo four-cylinder D4H Stage-IIIB engine developing 114hp, which, being well matched to the machine’s hydraulics, contributes to performance.
The excavator’s ‘Integrated work mode control’ provides high-efficiency, rapid dig cycles and reduced fuel consumption. This advanced mode control system ensures the maximum possible hydraulic horsepower available is delivered at a constant engine speed under varying load conditions.
In addition, boom and arm geometry provide competitive digging forces and lifting capacities, which provide faster work cycles. Hose rupture valves are fitted as standard to the boom and dipper cylinders as are quick-fit hydraulics and a hammer/shear service.
The EC27C is powered by a Volvo 1.6-litre low-emission Stage III engine coupled to a load-sensing hydraulic system for optimum performance and fuel saving. Simultaneous control of slew and offset movements provides faster, more precise performance due to the right joystick control lever that features an electronically proportional roller.
This allows the operator to accurately adjust hydraulic flow as needed. The latest machine is the third EC27C to be purchased by EMN Plant and joins other Volvo compact excavators, including an EC18C unit and ECR48C model.
