Dynamic enhancement for VEGAPULS radar
PROCESS level and pressure instrumentation specialists VEGA have introduced enhanced electronic versions to their standard radar level transmitter range by utilizing components from their high dynamic range solids level device. This, they say, will be especially useful for particularly challenging liquids applications with ultra-low reflectivity and for more difficult foaming, agitated processes.
To help measure solids level reliably, major technological advances have been achieved in signal processing to handle the weak return signals from low-reflectivity products, uneven product surfaces and heavy dust, all of which can scatter and attenuate return signals. This has been achieved thought enhancements to the electronics design.
VEGA say their solids radar was 1,000 times more sensitive than standard radar when it came to the market and now some of these benefits have been passed on to the standard liquids radar to ensure even more reliable measurement.
According to VEGA, increased ‘dynamic range’ is the ability of the device to receive and differentiate the smallest echoes from background noise, quite literally the equivalent being able to distinguish a pin drop from the roar of a football crowd, which is particularly important for applications with weak level reflections.
As a result of these developments, the full range of VEGAPULS process radar transmitters has now been enhanced with increases in dynamic range. In addition, two-wire loop powered radar devices are now available with ranges up to 70m, SIL conformance and ATEX approvals.
