Donaldson cyclone separators

According to Donaldson Filtration Solutions, cyclone separators are generally used as the ‘first level’ in the purification chain of compressed air stations. They are easily functional, reliable and maintenance-free, operating inconspicuously behind the aftercooler of the compressor or even integrated in the compressor housing.

Donaldson have taken their research and development a step further by introducing a unique range of cyclone separators supported by ‘computational fluid dynamics’, which is said to offer higher efficiency at very low energy losses.

The company claims the airflow generated by the centrifugal forces of its DF-C range leads to a more effective separation of liquid and solid contaminants from the compressed air than any cyclone separator. The water, in the form of droplets or splashing water (due to the condensation in the aftercooler), is also reliably removed.

This step of air treatment, on its own, is not sufficient to generate high-quality compressed air. However, the DF cyclone range has the added benefit of removing solid and liquid aerosols from 5 to 10µm.

The cyclone separators are available in size sizes, matching current compressor capacities and the connection sizes of Donaldson’s compressed air filters and refrigeration and adsorption dryer product range.
