Designing for Safety
AT this year’s Hillhead exhibition in June, ‘Designing for Safety’ will be the theme of The Institute of Quarrying/Quarry Products Association’s joint pavilion, which will feature a graphic display comprising the best examples of good safety design by participating exhibitors.
All exhibitors at the 2007 event will be invited to submit entries for this display on any aspect of plant and equipment supplied to the extractives/processing industry that includes a new, updated or innovative feature(s) designed to make a contribution to a safer and/or healthier working environment.
Contributions can relate to: protection from noise, vibration and dust; slips, trips and falls, and working at height; access, egress and guarding; improved ergonomics and ease of maintenance; reduced manual handling and remote control; all-round vision and hazard-warning systems; or any other pertinent health and safety initiative.
All submissions will be considered by an experienced panel of judges comprising representatives of the IoQ, QPA, Institute of Asphalt Technology (IAT) and Construction Equipment Association (CEA), under the chairmanship of the QPA’s director of health & safety, Martin Isles.
Those entries most deserving of recognition will receive: a Certificate of Merit; automatic entry into this year’s ‘QPA Health & Safety Best Practice Awards’ (for QPA members and non-members); upload on to the ‘Best Practice’ section of www.safequarry.com; and coverage in the June (Hillhead Catalogue) edition of Quarry Management.
Further information about this free, easy-to-enter competition, together with an electronic entry form, will be emailed to all Hillhead 2007 exhibitors (membership of the IoQ, QPA, IAT or CEA is not a requirement for entry). The closing date for receipt of submissions is Wednesday 28 March.
