Cooper Crouse-Hinds introduce LED Ex-approved lamp

T8 LED Ex-approved fluorescent lamp

New T8 LED lighting for hazardous areas provides up to 50% energy savings

COOPER Crouse-Hinds have extended and upgraded their popular AB12 series of T8 fluorescent lamps with the addition of a new T8 LED Ex-approved version which is certified for use in Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous gas, and Zone 21 and 22 hazardous dust environments.

The fourth supplement of the AB12 certification LOM 02 ATEX 2013X now allows for ‘the use of T8 LED tubes with direct mains supply up to 277V and consumed power up to 50W per tube’. The temperature class of the AB12 LED series is T6 for gas and T85 degrees Celsius for dust applications.

‘Nowadays, customers are asking for hazardous area LED lighting not only for energy-saving reasons, but also for environmental reasons,’ said Will Steckel, product line manager for IEC Lighting. ‘Statutory environmental regulations are becoming more and more important in certain countries and areas of the world.’

The AB12 LED series lamps are available in three sizes – 9W, 18W and 25W. These sizes are equivalent to fluorescent tube sizes of 18W, 36W and 58W. Replacing an AB12 T8 fluorescent lamp with the new T8 AB12 LED lamp will provide up to 50% energy savings.

The AB12 220 LED version has a rated current of 0.08A, with two T8 LED tubes and a luminous flux rating of 720 lumens, while the AB12 240 LED has a current rating of 0.16A, with two T8 LED tubes and a luminous flux rating of 1,440 lumens.

The third option in the series, the AB12 265 LED, has a rated current of 0.22A with two T8 LED tubes and a luminous flux rating of 2,000 lumens. All three versions have a rated voltage of 85–265V AC.
