Compressors double production at UAE quarry

Fujeirah Rock and Aggregates (Fujarac) have taken delivery of two Atlas Copco XRHS 836 air compressors and ROC 460 PC drill rig combinations to meet the increased production demands of a newly installed second crushing line.

The quarry in Fujeirah is currently producing 500 tonnes/h of gabbro diorite, but this will double to 20,000 tonnes/day when the quarry is extended into a second, recently developed, area to provide easier access to the newly installed crushing plant.

The quarry, which has reserves for the next 50 years, has workings on 12 20–22m high benches between 70m and 240m levels. The depths of the bench floors vary between 15m and 50m depending on the formation of the rock.

The new compressor and drill rig combinations were ordered through local distributors INMA to meet the anticipated increased production demand. Two Atlas Copco XRHS 836 oil-injected rotary screw compressors each provide an actual free-air delivery of 392 litres at 20bar for the operation of two ROC 460 PC drill rigs.

Housed in a zincor-treated canopy and trailer-mounted for manoeuvrability around the site, the compressors are powered by a Caterpillar C-9 six-cylinder diesel engine rated at 224kW.

Since opening the quarry 20 years ago, Fujarac have produced more than 30 million tonnes of material with 70% of today’s output destined for Qatar, Kuwait and other neighbouring Gulf States. The company also ship large boulders to Oman for use on seaport projects.
