CEMEX included in Fortune’s Change the World list
Leading American business magazine recognizes CEMEX’s positive impact in the world
CEMEX have been included in Fortune’s ‘Change the World’ list, a ranking that recognizes 50 companies worldwide that have made a sizable impact on major global social or environmental problems as part of their competitive strategy.
In 16th place, CEMEX is the only company from the construction materials sector to appear on the list, alongside well-known companies such as Vodaphone, Walmart, Toyota, Mastercard and Facebook.
This is the first year that the ‘Change the World’ list has been published by leading American business magazine Fortune. According to editor Allan Murray, the aim of the list is ‘to shine a spotlight on companies that have made significant progress in addressing major social problems as part of their core business strategy’.
CEMEX were selected from more than 200 nominees, thanks in large part to their Patrimonio Hoy programme, which provides low-income families living in urban and semi-urban areas with access to building materials, as well as microfinancing, technical advice, and logistical support, to assist participants in building their own homes.
Since its inception, Patrimonio Hoy has provided affordable solutions to approximately 2 million people throughout Latin America.
‘We are proud to be included in Fortune’s ‘Change the World list’,’ said Fernando A. Gonzalez, CEMEX’s chief executive officer. ‘This recognition reinforces our commitment to continue working everyday to build a better future.’
CEMEX UK president Jesus Gonzalez added: ‘I’m extremely proud to work for a company that cares about the environment and the communities in which it operates.
‘In the UK, we have initiatives like Lend-a-Hand, in which employees volunteer and give their time and energy, while being paid, to help local communities and charities.
‘Last year, 2,530 man-hours were spent by my colleagues helping others, and in 2015 we will give even more.’
