CDE to build world’s largest sand-washing system
Northern Ireland-based CDE Ireland, designers and manufacturers of bespoke washing equipment, have increased their success in the Middle East by securing a £5.6 million contract to develop the world’s largest sand-washing system for use on infrastructure projects in the region. The bespoke system will process around 1,200 tonnes/h and is the latest in a series of substantial export contracts secured by the company in the Arabian Gulf, India and Pakistan.
CDE will design and manufacture the large-scale plant to specifications agreed in close consultation with the client’s engineering team, as well as preparing the concrete and civil works as part of the overall scope of the project.
Announcing the contract, Tony Convery, CDE Ireland’s managing director, said: ‘This client had a specific requirement for a machine capable of processing high volumes of washed sand using a minimum of fresh water, as the machine will be used in the Arabian desert where temperatures can reach an astounding 55°C. We proposed one of our most sophisticated water-recycling systems and this design swung the procurement panel in our favour.’
News of the Middle Eastern deal follows hard on the heels of CDE’s recent acquisition of their Indian distributor, Torsa Machines, to form CDE Asia Ltd. With a population of 1 billion, CDE say they regard the Indian market as one ideally suited to their products.
Commenting on the acquisition, Mr Convery said: ‘Torsa have a strong engineering tradition, particularly in crushing, and excellent market contacts. We offered them the opportunity to replicate the successful business model we currently have in the UK and Europe.’
Alongside their success in the Middle East and India, Mr Convery commented that CDE’s focus on the European market remained strong with plans already afoot to extend the company’s existing Cookstown facility. ‘We will continue to invest heavily in research and development so that we remain a driving force for innovation in Ireland and the UK,’ he said.
