Caterpillar WAVS system expands operator awareness
A new machine-mounted closed-circuit vision system developed specifically for rugged applications has recently been introduced by Caterpillar Electronics and Electrical Systems (Cat Electronics).
The new Work Area Vision System (WAVS) is designed for easy installation on any machine and is simple to use, yet has powerful capabilities and features. The system, which is designed to withstand vibration, pressure washing and adverse environmental conditions, can provide operators with views from up to three cameras using advanced switching algorithms.
‘While it is not intended to be used in place of direct views or installed mirrors, WAVS is a great asset to improve operator awareness of surroundings, work-tool activity and changing conditions in the work area,’ said Brian Uhlenhake, Cat Electronics’ sales development manager.
Features of the WAVS display unit include: a 7in (178mm) colour TFT LCD display incorporating Auto-sense illumination to adjust to changing light conditions; sealing to IP54; and a user-adjustable rugged display mount. The display provides the operator with an increased field of vision in the cab, improving productivity as well as augmenting site safety.
Features of the camera include: panoramic (115°) or narrow (78°) fields of vision; sealing to IP69K, DIN-IEC 529; a standard vertical universal mount (horizontal is also available); a photochromic lens that darkens in ultraviolet light exposure; and an internal heater for the removal of condensation, snow and ice.
