Caterpillar introduce the 730 Ejector
CATERPILLAR have launched the new 25-tonne 730 Ejector articulated dumptruck – the second ADT in the Caterpillar line-up to use a self-cleaning load-ejection mechanism, which allows material to be dumped and spread on the move, without raising the body. Caterpillar say this delivers several benefits such as reduced cycle times, decreased powertrain loads and a reduction in the amount of support equipment needed for spreading and dozing.
In addition, because the body is not raised, the ejector truck can work efficiently on sites where stability issues or overhead obstacles limit the use of conventional dumptrucks. Moreover, the ejector body offers clean load ejection to eliminate production-robbing carry-back, which in turn helps to maximize payloads, improves productivity, reduces fuel consumption and lowers cost per tonne.
The reinforced ejector body is made from high-yield heat-treated steel, while the ejector mechanism itself includes a high-strength blade and technology similar to that used on Cat wheeled tractor-scrapers. The ejector body is designed to work in applications where the diameter of rocks does not exceed 152mm.
Capable of carrying a 28.1-tonne payload, the 730 Ejector is powered by a 317hp (237kW) Cat C11 engine featuring ACERT Technology, which optimizes performance while meeting EU Stage IIIa exhaust emissions regulations. The engine is matched to a six-speed electronically controlled transmission featuring an anti-hunt strategy and electronic clutch pressure control and controlled throttle shifting for smooth shifts and extended component life. Maximum travel speed is 55.3km/h.
To reduce downtime, increase availability and lower costs, the 730 Ejector offers extended engine and hydraulic oil change intervals, extended-life coolant and adjustment-free wheel bearings. Lubrication and service points are grouped for convenience, as are the service points under the bonnet. Test points are behind the cab and accessible from the ground.
The 730 Ejector also incorporates the proven features of the Cat 730 ADT’s suspension system and cab. The three-point front suspension provides a smooth ride to allow the operator to drive at productive speeds over rough terrain, while the inter-axle and cross-axle differential locking systems with on-the-go capability provide full driveline locking for maximum performance in adverse conditions. The centre-mounted cab and rear-mounted cooling system help provide excellent sight lines from the operator’s seat.
