Automatic data retrieval from Instantel
"The timely distribution of event data to project team members and clients is a major challenge for quarrying projects involving multiple seismographs or for units being used in remote locations for long-term monitoring. To overcome this problem modern communication technologies, such as wireless modems, cellular phones and the Internet, can be utilized to deliver results from remote sites just minutes after an event."
Instantel’s E-Link communication strategy applies these technologies to give users a range of options for remotely accessing event data. A key component of E-Link is the ability to access real-time results over the Internet using a standard web browser.
"Competitive and regulatory pressures can require that blast data be delivered to project members and clients immediately after an event. However, with a large number of monitoring stations and a complicated construction schedule, manual retrieval of data can be virtually impossible. E-Link can help overcome this problem by automatically retrieving data from monitors and distributing them over the Internet. This is achieved with the Auto Call Home function of Instantel’s BlastWare III software. With this function, BlastMate monitors can be programmed to automatically download data to a remote PC, either immediately after an event or at a specific time. The data are then ported over to a database for uploading to the website which can then be viewed by any number of clients and staff whenever they want."
