Astec launch Vari-Frequency horizontal screen
Patented technology increases throughput and efficiency while minimizing plugging and blinding
CONTINUING their legacy of designing durable, practical, and forward-thinking equipment that meets the evolving needs of producers worldwide, Astec Industries have announced the launch of their groundbreaking Vari-Frequency technology on their 6203 LP horizontal screen, a next-generation solution built to boost screening performance. The new design minimizes blinding and maximizes uptime, giving producers a smarter, more reliable way to keep processing material.
Installed on the bottom deck of a horizontal screen, the patented Vari-Frequency deck significantly increases throughput and efficiency while minimizing plugging and blinding – two of the most common challenges in screening operations. The live portion of the deck’s flexible surface is supported by a system of tensioned cables that create rapid, localized g-force spikes across the screen, stimulating the screen media and material to maintain throughput.
‘This launch represents a major step forward for producers who want to increase throughput without adding complexity,’ said Michael Norris, group president of Materials Solutions at Astec. ‘The addition of Vari-Frequency technology on horizontal screens gives customers a smarter, more productive way to process material, even in demanding applications. It’s another example of how Astec are bringing industry-changing solutions to the market, and we’re excited to expand this technology across more of our screening line-up. We can’t wait to showcase the 8ft model at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026.’
Built for standard side-tensioned screen cloth and requiring no external power source, the Vari-Frequency technology provides an adaptable, energy-independent solution that seamlessly integrates into existing systems. Its development was driven by extensive testing and customer collaboration to ensure reliable performance in demanding conditions.
Key features of the Astec Vari-Frequency horizontal screen
Increased efficiency and throughput: Innovative deck design delivers significantly higher throughput
Reduced blinding: Flexible, cable-supported deck generates screen media vibration spikes to minimize build-up
Low maintenance: Cleaner screen media reduces the need to climb between decks for manual cleaning and downtime
Energy independent: Operates without external power for cost-effective performance
Seamless integration: Screens with Vari-Frequency technology will be interchangeable with standard units requiring replacement or a performance upgrade.
As part of Astec’s broader commitment to continuous innovation, the company plans to incorporate Vari-Frequency technology into additional screen models across its product portfolio.
