Another Pedometer Challenge for CEMEX UK staff
Employees step out once again to improve their health in company’s second walking challenge
The May Day bank holiday earlier this month saw the start of this year’s CEMEX UK Pedometer Challenge.
This is the second year the company has organized the challenge, with 800 colleagues in 88 teams taking part. Last year 760 work colleagues took 210 million steps, effectively walking around the world whilst improving their health and raising money for charity.
Andy Taylor, the company’s health and safety director, commented: ‘Last year was a tremendous achievement. For some colleagues the Pedometer Challenge has changed their lives. Simon Spelman in Logistics, for example, not only lost weight and gave up smoking, but got all his family walking too.
‘Our industry has an aging workforce with an average age in the late forties. Many of our colleagues work in a potentially hazardous environment, so, quite rightly, their safety is paramount. However, the ‘health’ in ‘health and safety’ mustn’t be forgotten,’ he said.
Each member of staff taking part in the challenge has been given a pedometer and will report their steps to their team leaders on a weekly basis.
