Aggregate Industries climb to third place
AGGREGATE Industries are now believed to be the third largest producers of land-won aggregates in Great Britain. The company is thought to have overtaken RMC in 2003, while Tarmac continue to be the largest aggregates company, followed in second place by Hanson.
These are the conclusions of an annual report, published by BDS Marketing & Research Ltd, that lists the estimated outputs and market shares of all sand and gravel pits, crushed rock quarries and marine wharves in Great Britain.
Tarmac’s share of the aggregates market is now estimated at nearly 22%, representing a slight increase on last year. Hanson have also enjoyed a small increase in market share with the opening of two new sand and gravel sites in Staffordshire and Cambridgeshire. RMC are still the third largest aggregates company if marine aggregates are included and Lafarge Aggregates continue to be the fifth largest company.
BDS estimate that the top five national companies currently represent 70% of total production. For further details of the report entitled: ‘Estimated outputs of pits, quarries and marine wharves in Great Britain’, contact BDS Marketing.
