A record year for JCB
JCB have announced record profits for 2005 – a year when machine production and sales turnover also reached all-time highs. Chairman Sir Anthony Bamford said 2005 was, without doubt, ‘the most successful year in JCB’s history, with new records set for profitability, production and turnover’.
In 2005, the company’s 60th anniversary year, pre-tax profit rose to £110 million, double the figure for 2004. Other new records included: a rise in global production to over 45,000 machines, up 21% on 2004; a 23% increase in sales turnover to £1.42 billion; and a rise in global market share from 8.6 to 9.6%. Significantly, JCB also moved up the world rankings for construction equipment manufacturers, from fifth to fourth place by volume.
JCB now have 17 plants on four continents, with 10 in the UK, three in India and the others in the US, Brazil, China and Germany. In 2001 the company manufactured just 120 different products; today that figure has more than doubled to 257.
