The Case For Dumptrucks

Case introduce new rigid and articulated dumptrucks

The latest additions to Case’s product line-up include two new rigid and two new articulated dumptrucks.

The RD228 and RD240 rigid dumptrucks have been introduced to add a new dimension to Case’s product offering and to allow them to penetrate new markets. This new range has been designed for heavy-duty applications in quarrying as well as large-scale rehandling projects where power, strength, capacity and reliability are essential. Case say they also form an integral part of their equipment packages for earthmoving and quarrying which include the larger models from their new CX-series of hydraulic excavators.

The RD228 is powered by a six-cylinder turbocharged and intercooled diesel engine which produces an output of 223kW. An Allison automatic transmission coupled to a hydraulic torque converter provides five forward and one reverse gear. The vehicle has a gross weight of 45.5 tonnes and a payload capacity of 28 tonnes. The overall length of the vehicle is 7.29m with a wheelbase of 3.65m, while the height and width dimensions are 3.39m and 3.17m respectively.

The RD240 is powered by a 368kW six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with an Allison automatic transmission coupled to an Allison hydraulic torque converter to produce six forward and one reverse gear. With a gross vehicle weight of 68.5 tonnes, the RD240 has a payload capacity of 40 tonnes. The unit has a 3.60m long wheelbase, with an overall length of 7.86m, a maximum width of 3.90m and a height of 3.86m.

Both units have independent front and rear suspension, while the RD240’s rear driving axle has a triple reduction with bevel gears and a final reduction with epicycloidal reductions in the wheel hub.

The 325 and 330 ADTs are the first of four models from Case which will form a range with capacities ranging from 22 tonnes up to 40 tonnes.

The 325 has a capacity of 23 tonnes and is powered by a Cummins 8.3-litre 6CTA8.3C turbocharged diesel engine with an output of 190kW. Each of the three driven axles has a locking differential incorporating a locking primary differential that distributes the power between the front axle and the rear bogie. A second locking differential performs the same function between the two rear axles to give the dumptruck good adhesion and gradeability. The front axle has a large amount of vertical movement and oscillation, both being controlled by oversized hydro-pneumatic suspension units.

The 27-tonne capacity 330 ADT is powered by a 209kW six-cylinder turbocharged Cummins diesel engine. Power is transmitted to the three ZF (6x6) drive axles via a powershift transmission with six forward and three reverse gears, producing a maximum speed in sixth gear of 45.6km/h. The suspension system comprises integrated oil- and air-type cylinders which have a long stroke to give smooth ride characteristics over difficult terrain.

Both models feature all-steel, centrally-located cabs installed on flexible mountings; and soundproofing and air-conditioning are fitted as standard. For protection, the two multi-stage lifting cylinders are housed inside the rear frame. The body is made from Hardox 400 steel and can be supplied with an optional scissor-type tailgate. The braking system uses a dual-hydraulic circuit, operating disc brakes on all six wheels; the parking brake has a disc brake on the middle drive axle with hydraulic brake release. Tyres are standard 23.5R25s with an option of 750\65R.25s.
