Volvo CE unveil ECR58 Generation F compact excavator

Volvo ECR58 Generation F excavator

New machine offers high levels of comfort, versatility and performance in six-tonne range

VOLVO Construction Equipment have introduced their ECR58 Generation F which, the company claim, is the industry’s most comfortable and optimized compact excavator to date.

In developing the ECR58, the aim was to combine all of the industry’s best practices into a single machine. The six-tonne ECR58 unit has, therefore, been designed to unlock the full potential of its short swing radius and deliver top performance in a multitude of applications.

According to Volvo CE, the machine offers a new standard in operator comfort and features ‘the most spacious cab’ in the industry. Operator wellbeing, confidence and safety are all supported through a simplified workstation and operator-friendly experience.

The seat-to-joystick position, for example, has been revised and improved whilst still being suspended together – a technique that Volvo say they introduced to the construction equipment sector.

Designed to offer the highest levels of operator convenience, the Volvo cab features efficient soundproofing, numerous storage areas, an automotive style jog wheel and a 5in colour display with easy-to-navigate menus. A fully opening front window and slide side window offers best all-round visibility in its class.

Most mishaps on site are due to attachment compatibility and tool changeover. To address this issue, the ECR58 has a comprehensive range of attachments which are tailored precisely to the excavator and easy to switch over. These includes buckets, breakers, thumbs and a new tilt quick coupler.

Hydraulic attachments can be operated with precision from the proportional fingertip controls while flow settings are easily customizable thanks to new work modes. A short press on the work mode button will take the operator to a menu where machine settings can easily be matched to the attachment installed. For each tool, a large set of parameters can be adjusted to perfectly match the machine to the application at hand.

Key features such as ECO mode and auto-idle shutdown are standard on the ECR58 F-generation unit. The former further reduces fuel consumption by up to 10% while the latter eliminates unnecessary fuel consumption. With the auto engine shut down, unnecessary operating hours helps reduce maintenance costs and contributes to a higher resale value of the machine.

The ECR58 Generation F marks the beginnings of a new philosophy for Volvo’s compact excavator range – one that matches superior performance and intelligent features with ease of use and a modern and innovative design.
