The new J-1160 jaw crusher from Terex Finlay

Currently celebrating their 50th year in business, Northern Ireland-based Terex Finlay, part of the $9.1 billion worldwide Terex Corp., recently launched the J-1160 jaw crusher to complement their existing range of crushers and screeners.

Featuring a high-performance 1,000mm x 600mm (40in x 24in) Jaques jaw chamber, the J-1160 is designed to suit both quarrying and recycling/demolition applications and is said to offer many innovative new features.

Commenting on the J-1160, Dermot Harley, quarry manager with Tony Harley & Sons Contractors, said: ‘Nothing in its class matches the tonnage that this machine can produce. I have used it in both recycling and quarry applications and, as a contractor, it gives me the versatility and performance I need in one machine. Furthermore, its compact size and ease of transport make it even more attractive to the contractor market.’

According to Terex Finlay, many of the benefits of the machine can be attributed to its innovative design. The J-1160 has an advanced PLC control/monitoring system that facilitates an automatic start/stop sequence, making the machine more user-friendly and, ultimately, helping to reduce operator error.

In addition, the hydrostatic transmission system provides precise control of the chamber speed allowing the operator to vary the speed of the jaw to ensure maximum throughput. The hydrostatic system also allows the operator to use the reverse function to clear the chamber should a blockage occur.

Powered by a 224kW (300hp) Caterpillar C9 engine, the J-1160’s fully hydraulic closed-side setting can be adjusted quickly, while its heavy-duty vibrating grizzly feeder with integrated pre-screen provides an aggressive action for efficient material separation. Material from the pre-screen can be diverted to a stockpile via a by-pass conveyor, or can join the crushed product on the main belt, which has a discharge height of 3.3m.

The standard hopper capacity on the J-1160 is 5m3, but folding hydraulic extensions are available to increase this to 8m3. The machine also features a heavy-duty chassis with convenient access points and ladders to all service areas, while heavy-duty crawler tracks and an optional radio remote-control unit make on-site mobility very easy. Start-up time for the J-1160 is minimal, with the machine ready to begin crushing in less than 5min.
