Staffordshire tower blocks to be demolished

Stoke-on-Trent Council approves demolition plans as part of multi-million-pound redevelopment 

TEN residential apartment blocks in Hanley, Blurton, Stoke, and Burslem are to be demolished under multi-million-pound redevelopment plans approved by Stoke-on-Trent Council. The 1970s-built tower blocks, which together contain 374 flats, are said to be no longer fit for purpose and will be replaced with new homes over a period of 15 to 20 years.

The first phase of the redevelopment programme will see the demolition of Pedley Court and Robinson Court in Blurton, at a cost of around £20 million, with work due to start in 2025 and completed in 2028.

Elsewhere, Boundary Court, Brookfield Court and Forest Court, in Hanley, is scheduled for redevelopment by 2032, while Dibden Court, Penkhull Court and Southern Court in Stoke will be demolished and worked on thereafter. The redevelopment of Arthur Cotton Court and Port Vale Court, in Burslem, is expected for completion by 2040.

A demolition contract due to start next month will be the dismantlement of four empty blocks of flats in Hanley, as part of ongoing efforts to replace some of the area’s most outdated accommodation. Contractors East Midlands Demolition Ltd have been appointed to demolish 54 individual apartments to prepare the site for redevelopment and ensure it is ready for future use.
