Siemens Sirius 3RK3 modular safety system
The Sirius 3RK3 modular safety system from Siemens Automation & Drives has been designed to fill gaps between simple safety relays and fail-safe controllers. It can be used in all sectors and applications, where several safety functions have to be evaluated and connection of several switching devices can prove costly and time-consuming.
The core of the system is a central unit with eight safety-related inputs, a safety-related relay output and a safety-related solid-state output. Users can connect up to seven expansion modules that can read and output further safety functions. The Sirius 3RK3 is also equipped with an interface module allowing communication with higher-level controllers via a Siemens Profibus.
‘Enhancing or simply linking numerous safety applications can be expensive and time-consuming with the undertaking of additional wiring,’ said a Siemens spokesman. ‘The Sirius 3RK3 modular system is a valuable addition to Siemens’ existing suite of safety integrated solutions, such as ASi Safe and ProfiSafe, offering users flexibility in terms of selecting suitable solutions, saving money and reducing downtime.’
