Saving hidden costs with PM1155
Rob White, owner-driver and proprietor of Rowen Bulk Services, believes that in over four years of hauling grain and aggregates across southern England, the fitting of Vishay PM Onboard equipment has saved him several thousands of pounds in otherwise hidden costs.
Operating out of Lasham, in Hampshire, Mr White drives a Volvo FH13 6x2 tractor coupled to a 65yd3 bulk tipping trailer. The vehicle is plated to the legal maximum, handles a full 29-tonne payload and covers around 120,000km a year.
With Vishay PM Onboard weighing equipment fitted to the 44-tonne tipper, Mr White says he is now able to load up to the maximum legal limit first time, every time, and never runs light. He also avoids the time-consuming delays associated with repeated trips to the site/quarry weighbridge and rejoining the queue after adding/discharging payload to be sure of being spot on. Moreover, he has no fear of his vehicle being overloaded, thereby reducing the chances of him incurring a fine.
Although Mr White has had Vishay PM Onboard equipment fitted to all the vehicles he has operated, he reserves particular praise for the PM1155 indicator, which was launched last year and is fitted to his current truck. The PM1155 supersedes the PM1100 and 1150 indicators fitted to his previous vehicles, and fits neatly into the DIN (radio) slot on the dashboard.
Consequently, he says, it is a much neater, cleaner installation and much easier to use/navigate. ‘Individual axle loadings and gross vehicle weight readings are available simply at the touch of a button,’ he says. Mr White also likes the comfort of the inclinometer, which flags up ground level problems that might otherwise give rise to instability when tipping.
By the time he moves his current vehicle on in around five years’ time, Mr White believes the Vishay PM Onboard equipment not only will have paid for itself many times over, but could also result in a higher vehicle residual value or at least make the truck more attractive to potential buyers.
