Sand washing in New Zealand

Bruce BWD150 bucket dewaterer

For more than 50 years Cookstown-based Bruce Engineering have been combining experience and innovation to provide tailor-made solutions for the minerals industry.

The Bruce Washing range includes dewatering screens; washing screens; modular, single- and twin-cyclone plants; as well as turnkey closed-circuit washing and water-treatment systems.

The Washing range also includes bucket-wheel dewatering plants, which are sometimes perceived as the more traditional way of recovering sand, although many customers still find these to be the most cost-effective solution.

In New Zealand, high levels of demand from the construction industry has made sand a valuable commodity, so when Christchurch-based Fulton Hogan – specialists in the construction and maintenance of transport and civil infrastructure – were looking to increase efficiency at one of their sand processing plants, they opted for a Bruce BWD150 bucket-wheel dewaterer.

The BWD150 forms part of a screening and washing plant that processes up to 280 tonnes/h of raw feed, and Fulton Hogan have been so pleased with the performance of the dewater that they have just placed an order for a second unit.

A project manager with the company said: ‘We were very impressed with our first washing plant from Bruce and have just placed our second order. Bruce spent additional time with us to make modifications to ensure we produced the perfect product for our customers, and we can now produce sand at a more efficient rate to meet the current demand.’

Bruce also offer a range of static and mobile aggregate cleaning options, such as the BWR/BWL range of coarse-material washers, which help release sand and stone content from dirtier deposits, as well as a trash screen to remove any waste or organic material from finished products.

Having recently enjoyed a successful attendance at Hillhead 2012, this month Bruce will be exhibiting at the RWM show at the NEC Birmingham (stand OA214) from 11–13 September, where a Baioni centrifuge silt recovery plant and a BWR300 mobile/modular aggregate cleaning system will be on display.
