Retrofitting with high-efficiency cartridge and bag filters

The efficiency and economy of a dust collector depends largely on the choice of the filter media from which the cartridge or bag filters are made. As manufacturers of complete dust- collection systems offering a wide range of filter media, Donaldson have the technical know-how and can provide a filter medium specially designed to meet the requirements of the user and the properties of the dust.

The company’s range of products encompasses high-performance filter media, including their latest Dura-Life technology, which is said to extend the working life of a bag filter by up to three times in comparison with conventional media. So how does it work?

A much larger quantity of dirt particles are separated by the fine-pored surface of the Dura-Life filter media. This allows cleaning to be conducted with less pressure and less mechanical force, while fewer particles accumulate in the filter.

The cost of replacing filters, therefore, is reduced and the frequently time-consuming maintenance to replace filter elements is only necessary at longer intervals. Dura-Life’s potential savings in filter-bag prices, energy consumption and labour can be calculated at www.duralifebags.com

Another filter media available for retrofitting in dust collectors is Donaldson’s patented Ultra-Web. The filter fabric consists of what are believed to be the smallest synthetic fibres used in filtration today, with diameters of just 0.2–0.3 micron.

This increases the working life of Ultra-Web, as the dust particles become trapped on the surface of the material, while the substrate material remains clean.
