Remote asset management

Caterpillar are to equip most of their core machines with EquipmentManager and Product Link – the company’s remote tracking and asset-management solution – as standard in the European and Turkish markets, subject to meeting necessary regulatory requirements.

Available as an option since 1998, Caterpillar will now deliver remote tracking and management capabilities as an integral feature of most of their machines, including mining and paving units, while Product Link will be available as an option for the remaining machines.

The company will phase in EquipmentManager and Product Link throughout first quarter 2008, after which Product Link will come as standard equipment, together with a three-year subscription to Asset Watch, the remote asset-management portion of EquipmentManager.

Caterpillar say the EquipmentManager/Product Link system provides the full depth of asset management, maintenance and health information required by today’s equipment managers, to help them effectively manage their fleets.

EquipmentManager is a secure, web-based application that uses key indicators from equipment, such as hours, location and diagnostic codes. Combined with powerful tools such as mapping, maintenance scheduling and troubleshooting instructions, EquipmentManager quickly sorts through machine data to identify events that require attention and delivers information in a meaningful and actionable manner.

Using satellite technology, Product Link is the hardware that allows information flow between on-board systems and the web-based EquipmentManager application. The remote management system provides machine location and hours as well as time and geo-fencing capabilities.
