Polish quarry operator acquires Doosan machine

Doosan DX300SLR-3 excavator

New DX300SLR-3 excavator chosen for unloading aggregates at Regalica Wharf in Szczecin

A NEW Doosan DX300SLR-3 extended boom excavator has been acquired by Szczeciñskie Kopalnie Surowców Mineralnych SA (SKSM SA), primarily for unloading aggregates from barges on the Regalica trans-shipment wharf in Szczecin, Poland.

The Stage IIIB-compliant excavator was supplied by Grausch & Grausch Maszyny Budowlane Sp zoo, the exclusive authorized dealers for Doosan construction equipment in Poland.

The DX300SLR-3 has an operating weight of 31 tonnes and is powered by a six-cylinder Doosan DL08K turbocharged engine (159kW) with common-rail injection. The machine’s electronic power-optimizing system (e-EPOS) used in the hydraulic system performs automatic rev/min reduction and diagnostics functions, ensuring optimum power and fuel savings.

The DX300SLR-3 unit is equipped with a one-piece 10m boom and a 7m digging arm, which ensures a maximum digging depth of 13.78m and a reach of 17.39m. According to Doosan, the chassis of the new excavator is more durable and provides greater stability, while the type-X frame and the type-D backbone frame increase the strength of the machine.

The operator’s cab features vibration-damping construction with excellent soundproofing, automatic climate control (five modes and a temperature sensor) and a large 7in colour LCD display. There is also a pneumatic suspension seat that allows multiple adjustments, a CD player and a rear camera. The redesigned cab provides more space than previous generation machines, ensuring considerably better conditions for the operator.

Jacek Ogórek, director of factory production control at SKSM SA, explained: ‘The aggregates are transported in barges from Bielinek Quarry, near Cedynia, and unloaded into the storage yard at Regalica Wharf. The Doosan excavator removes the loads from the barges to form heaps; the extended boom ensures quick unloading, as the machine does not have to move or manoeuvre so often.

‘An excavator equipped with a regular boom would take twice as long to do the same job. In addition, the operator benefits from a more comfortable working environment compared with the previous generation machines.’

SKSM SA are also using other Doosan equipment, including DL420-3/DL300-3 wheel loaders and two older DX excavator models for their quarrying and wharf operations.
