PMP-25 monitors and protects
The latest series of the popular compact PMP-25 Digital Load Control now offers versions for three-phase and single-phase industrial pumps. The PMP-25 provides an efficient low-cost solution to the prevention of damage to industrial electric pump motors caused by overloading, jamming, loss of load, dry running or loss of prime. Manufactured in the US by Load Controls Inc., the PMP-25 Digital Load Control series is available in Europe from sensing specialists Vydas International Marketing.
Vydas say the PMP-25’s rugged polycarbonate sealed enclosure can be mounted in various locations, including on a door, wall or cabinet, or inside a control enclosure. The unit is easy to install and displays true power (volts x amps x power factor) on a large, easy-to-read, bright-red digital LED display. Display configurations include percentage full load, horsepower or kilowatts.
Both high- and low-power trip relays with adjustable start-up delay and individual trip timers are standard features. The 4–20mA analogue output and individual trip relays allow the flexibility of pump motor control and performance monitoring via external instruments such as computers, chart recorders or data loggers. The high-power trip is provided for the detection of problems such as overloads, jammed impellers, failed bearings or blocked outlets, while the low-power trip provides detection of low-load or no- flow conditions, such as cavitation or loss of prime. The low-power trip, when used to detect dry running, is said to be up to 10 times more sensitive than that of conventional undercurrent relays.
The product is compatible with three-phase motors up to 373kW, operating on supplies between 208V and 575V; a single-phase version is also available. With its front panel keypad and display, the unit is easy to set up with all settings visible at the touch of a button. A special range-finder toroid allows easy range set-up, particularly when installing small pump motors. Flexible reset facilities include: ‘Local’, via a button on the control’s front panel; ‘Remote’, via a low-current relay switch; and ‘Auto’, via a link on the rear connector.
The PMP-25 is particularly suitable for protecting all types of pumps, including seal-less or magnetic drive, centrifugal, positive displacement, process and sewage pumps. In addition, by monitoring electrical power and motor load, the product can be used to solve production problems anywhere electric motors are used, such as conveyers, fans, compressors, rollers, grinders etc.
