New wireless blasting system
FOLLOWING successful field evaluations in large open-pit operations, Davey Bickford have introduced the Daveytronic Wireless Blasting System. This new system allows shotfirers to remotely detonate single or multiple shots from up to one mile (1.6 km) away from the pattern, significantly improving safety during the blast and exceeding minimum distance requirements.
The Wireless Blasting System allows the shotfirer to configure blasting machines in a master–slave configuration using the remote trigger software. Modems (one for the master blasting machine and one for each slave) are required for communication between the master and slave units. All functions of the blasting machine slave are completely transparent to the master remote trigger.
For high levels of operating safety, the system features a communication protocol protected by a cyclic redundancy check (CRC), which guarantees data integrity. The protocol uses encrypted frequency-hopping communication to ensure security of the signal between the master and slave(s) blasting machines. The system continuously changes frequency between multiple channels so that communication cannot be interrupted, corrupted or disrupted, thereby ensuring signal safety and security.
Designed for use in surface mines and quarries, the Daveytronic Wireless Blasting System is only compatible with the Daveytronic Digital Blasting System and is available for new blasting machines or for retrofitting to existing field units.
Daveytronic’s total system verification allows blasting operators to test the fuse head, firing capacitor, ASIC processor and logic capacitor, to ensure the blast takes place as designed. The system’s two-capacitor, two-way communication enhances field operating safety by searching for missing, faulty or extra detonators. The diagnostics also inform the operator of the exact location of the problem so it can be corrected.
