New Twin Disc HP500 wet clutch from MIT
Latest addition to industrial PTO line designed for severe applications requiring heavy-duty power
TWIN Disc’s industrial power take-off (PTO) product line has a new addition designed primarily for severe applications. The HP500 is a heavy-duty, hydraulically actuated PTO with a power rating of 500hp at 1,800 rev/min, making it well suited to driving pumps, grinders, crushers, dredgers, chippers, shredders and heavy-duty drills.
The design of the HP500 allows either side-load ‘P’ or in-line ‘I’ applications with the same output group, with an advanced control system allowing for continuous smooth engagement.
A key feature of this new design is its auxiliary pump drive towers with 400hp maximum capacity per tower, or 450hp for both, and the ability to rotate 0°, 45° and 90° clockwise or counter-clockwise to allow for clearance in any installation.
Optional speed increase ratios of 0.77:1 and 0.83:1 are available along with the standard 1:1, offered in both single and dual auxiliary pump tower. Pads and splines are easily interchangeable to accommodate varying pump sizes, with SAE A to SAE E being available.
A hydraulic spring-applied brake has also been added as a standard feature, with the HP500 available in multiple SAE input housing sizes, including SAE #1 (SAE J617), SAE #2 and SAE #3, and with SAE 355 (14in), SAE 290 (11.5in) or SAE 255 (10in) input couplings.
The technology behind the HP500 unit is said to lend itself especially to the heavy duty-crusher market. The unit covers a large power range for a wide selection of crusher models, including jaw crushers, impact crushers, cone crushers and mineral/roll sizers, whilst its wet-clutch technology allows for smoother start-ups and a level of operation not typically seen with dry-clutch alternatives.
The HP500 is a new addition to the Twin Disc family of high-power clutches, which includes the HP800 and HP1200 units. The product set now satisfies users in the 500–1,200hp range of industrial crushers, along with other heavy-duty industrial applications.
MIT (Marine and Industrial Transmissions), the official UK and Ireland distributors for Twin Disc, Transfluid, Rubber Design and Quincy Compressor, will be displaying the HP500, along with other new driveline and power-transmission technology, at Hillhead 2018.
