New safety specialist joins Lafarge Cement’s Hope Works
AS Lafarge Cement UK celebrate their safest year yet with a reduction in UK-wide injuries of 70% in 2009, in comparison with 2008, the company’s Hope Works in Derbyshire has recently welcomed Martin Murray as its new health and safety co-ordinator.
Mr Murray joins Hope Works from the chemicals industry and brings with him seven years’ experience in the fields of health, safety and the environment.
He will be tasked with supporting Hope Works’ manager, Ashley Bryan, in his work to continue to improve health and safety performance at the plant, which produces up to 1.3 million tonnes of cement each year.
Commenting on the appointment, Mr Bryan said: ‘Martin has only just joined us but already he is making a significant contribution to the team here and to the continued drive for safety in all aspects of our operation.
‘Safety is our number one business priority and while Lafarge has always operated to very stringent safety standards and guidelines, Martin brings new ideas and a fresh pair of eyes which will help us continue to improve.’
Mr Martin added: ‘I am delighted to be given this role at Hope Works. It has given me the chance to help, support and coach a dynamic team at Hope in the quest to improve on the site’s health, safety and environment goals.’
