New Liebherr machines join Lancaster Earthmoving’s fleet

Lancaster Earthmoving Ltd have operated Liebherr equipment since 1996 and recently added three excavators and a bulldozer to their fleet of modern and productive machines. All four earthmovers have been hard at work on various bulk muck-shifting, civil engineering, environmental management and road construction contracts, including coastal protection and reservoir improvements, which also involved wetlands enhancement and creation tasks to improve birdlife environments.

At Abberton Reservoir, near Colchester in Essex, Lancaster Earthmoving are currently working on a major reservoir contract with their new Liebherr earthmovers. Here, the reservoir capacity is being enlarged with the reprofiling of the banks through bulk muck-shifting and the addition of large volumes of aggregates, which will add a further 3m of bank height with the corresponding increase in water volume; a 2km road is also being constructed. In all, it is estimated that the total volume of materials to be handled will exceed 1,000,000 cubic metres, most of which will be carried out by the new fleet of Liebherr machines. Alongside this major civil engineering project, Lancaster Earthmoving are also tasked with generating large areas of shallow water margins, shelving up to 1m in depth to encourage and maintain the plethora of birdlife for which the region is famous.

Lancaster Earthmoving are family-owned and independent contractors based in Kennett near Newmarket, Suffolk. Formed in 1988, the company has developed into one of the leading civil engineering, landscaping and bulk earthmoving specialists in the east of England. Their equipment replacement policy guarantees a modern and reliable fleet that is largely less than four years old. All Lancaster Earthmoving machine operators are fully certificated and experienced, with continual training an important part of the company’s procedures. The fleet is comprised of tracked and wheeled hydraulic excavators ranging from 18-50 tonnes operating weight, low ground-pressure bulldozers from 13-27 tonnes, a large fleet of ADTs and mobile crushing, screening and washing plants for producing haul road, stabilization and coastal protection aggregates. Additionally, the company provides a workshop facility from their Great Wigborough premises in Essex for major repair and fabrication work, whilst providing support for their own team of field service engineers. The latest digital ground modelling and surveying systems are employed by Lancaster Earthmoving to provide setting out, design and QS services as part of their turnkey civil engineering operations.

Two R 944 C Litronic and one R 934 C Litronic excavators have joined the Lancaster Earthmoving fleet. All three are to the highest specification and have been supplied with super-long heavy-duty undercarriage with 750mm wide trackpads.

CCTV rear-view cameras with in-cab colour monitors, screen vandal guards, roof beacons, additional headlights, load diagrams with overload warning systems and a wide selection of earthmoving and ditching buckets are included in the optional extras package. The R 944 C machines have 6.45m gooseneck booms and 2.60m sticks and are powered by Liebherr D 936 L engines with a 190kW output. The R 934 C is equipped with a 6.05m gooseneck boom, a 3.10m stick and a quick-hitch system. The Liebherr engine is a type D 934 L, which develops 150kW. All engines comply with level IIIA / Tier 3 reduced emissions requirements.

Lancaster Earthmoving have opted for a low-ground-pressure version of the fully hydrostatic PR 734 LGP Litronic, which has an operating weight of around 25 tonnes. Power is supplied by a type-D 936-L A6 Liebherr-made level IIIA / Tier 3 reduced emissions engine with a 150kW output. This bulldozer has been delivered with comprehensive front-end equipment, including push-frame for all straight and U blades, plus hydraulic control for these and angle blades; the 4.10m³ capacity 3,995mm straight blade also has an overflow spill guard.
