New bespoke screen for Lafarge
Siebtechnik Rekord screening plant delivered to Lafarge UK’s Johnson Wharf plant
TEMA (Machinery) have supplied a new Siebtechnik Rekord circular motion screen to Lafarge Aggregate’s Johnsons Wharf at Greenhithe, in Kent, to replace an old primary double-deck screen that had proven troublesome.
Lafarge multi-unit manager John Hilton wanted the new machine to pick up the existing footprint without needing any modifications to the structure or chutework. Siebtechnik were approached to design a bespoke 1.8m x 6.0m screen based on the company’s tried and tested Rekord screen design with a fully bolted construction, to resolve all the issues of the old machine.
To address the aggressive nature of marine-dredged ballast, the replacement screen has extensive rubber and polyurethane protection on all surfaces exposed to material flow. Tema Isenmann supplied Isepren WS85 modular panels to both decks.
A special feature of the WS85 system is the method of fitting the rails (which are protected by deep-skirt Nockin bars) to the machine crossmembers. All the fixing bolts are within the rails, thereby minimizing the wearing away and failure of cleats and exposed bolt heads.
The Rekord screen supplied is also grease lubricated, although oil lubrication is available an option to suit customers’ individual preferences. With the new screen now fully operational, Johnsons Wharf is currently achieving its production target of 270,000 tonnes of material a year.
