Thermally conductive bedding materials now available nationwide with accreditation to ENA TS 97-1

HEIDELBERG Materials UK have announced that their PowerSand range of thermally conductive bedding material is now available nationwide with accreditation to ENA TS 97-1*.

The range, which is made up of PowerSand, PowerSand CBS, and PowerSand CBS Extra, is used in the installation and backfilling of underground power cables in a range of projects, particularly in the rail, energy, and utility sectors.

All three products are accredited to the ENA TS 97-1 standard, demonstrating that they meet the thermal and physical requirements for these applications, ensuring the heat generated is dissipated evenly and the performance of the cables is optimized.

‘We have the most comprehensive range of ENA TS 97-1 accredited cabling backfill materials in the UK market,’ said Jamie Watts, technical specialist at Heidelberg Materials UK.

‘And, with the Government’s commitment to investing in infrastructure, we can help secure efficient energy transmission as the UK builds its energy network.’

PowerSand is well suited to long-distance underground cabling where future access may be needed, offering stability by accommodating minor ground movements. PowerSand CBS is a cement-bound product designed for underground high-voltage cable installations, while PowerSand CBS Extra offers an even lower thermal resistivity and contributes to a reduced carbon footprint.

The three sand products are joined in Heidelberg Materials’ Power range by PowerCrete, a heat-conducting concrete that offers a more robust bedding or infill solution for high-voltage and ultra-high-voltage installations. It offers superior thermal conductivity, allowing efficient heat dissipation and increased power capacity. Its consistency can also be adjusted making it idea for embedding and encapsulating ducts and cables.
