Maximizing value from C&D waste materials with CDE

Sheenan recycling

Washing equipment specialists team up with Sheehan Group to demonstrate successful recycling application

CDE Global have released a video case study demonstrating how construction, demolition and excavation waste can be reused in high value construction applications. Filmed in conjunction with Oxford-based Sheehan Group, a family-run construction and civil engineering business, viewers have the opportunity to watch the full process from the removal of waste materials from a construction site and recycling the waste materials by wet processing to their reuse in a building project.

The aggregates firm recognized a growing need to optimize the reuse of recycled materials and the business opportunities in the local area. In 2012, Sheehan invested in an advanced CDE waste-recycling system, which used the latest wet-processing methods (at the time) to create a range of certified sand and aggregate products for the concrete sector of the construction industry.

The bespoke washing plant has since been updated with a range of equipment to create further high-quality reprocessing solutions. It includes an AggMax portable logwasher, Infinity screens, a feed system and an Evowash sand washing plant. The recycling system also boasts full closed-circuit water recycling with the inclusion of an Aquacycle thickener and filter press.

Eunan Kelly, business development manager (Europe) for the CDE Reco team, commented: ‘We work in close collaboration with each customer to develop a tailored solution to maximize the volume of material that they can return into the construction market.’

Last year Sheehan Group celebrated a significant milestone by diverting around 500,000 tonnes of waste from UK landfill sites using the CDE recycling plant.

Chris Sheehan, managing director of the aggregates company, said: ‘The CDE installation has allowed us to take better control of our business and integrate our recycled products into construction projects. For example, we now make concrete blocks and ready-mixed concrete using recycled sand and aggregates which were formerly waste materials.’
