Mannok launch new Biodiversity Committee
New dedicated team to drive environmental improvements and biodiversity initiatives across company’s operations
MANNOK have announced the formation of a new Biodiversity Committee as part of their 2030 Vision. This dedicated team will drive environmental improvements and meaningful biodiversity initiatives across Mannok operations.
With members from various departments, the committee brings diverse skills and perspectives to address pressing environmental challenges.
The committee has already begun work with a tree-planting project at the company’s insulation plant, the first of many initiatives planned to improve biodiversity in the local community. These trees will help improve carbon storage capacity, supporting Mannok’s broader goals of reducing their carbon footprint and achieving net-zero targets.

Speaking about the new committee, Mannok’s environmental manager, Stephen Linden, said: ‘Looking beyond our own operations, we’re committed to supporting local biodiversity efforts. As signatories to the Business in the Community NI Biodiversity Charter, we’re working toward Platinum status through ambitious targets and meaningful partnerships. We’re reaching out to local schools, community groups, clubs, and businesses to create lasting environmental improvements.
‘We firmly believe that tackling biodiversity loss requires collaboration between government, business, and community. By working with stakeholders at all levels, we aim to create lasting positive change in the areas where we operate.’

One of Mannok’s key priorities is helping their workforce understand biodiversity, including practical steps everyone can take to make a difference. The committee is also building partnerships with local organizations to extend its reach beyond Mannok.
Mr Linden continued: ‘Biodiversity isn’t just another corporate responsibility box to tick. It’s a journey we’re all on together. By embedding ecological thinking into our business practices and community engagement, we can create meaningful change where we live and work. When we combine our efforts, the impact grows exponentially. It’s about taking action, getting involved, and building partnerships that drive positive change for everyone.’
Mannok have partnered with Ulster Wildlife to develop a comprehensive biodiversity action plan across all their land holdings. Through detailed habitat assessments, wildlife surveys, and carbon measurements, Ulster Wildlife has helped Mannok understand the carbon currently stored in their lands, and identify opportunities for improvement.
Tree planting forms a vital part of this strategy, offering a natural solution to enhance carbon storage while supporting Mannok’s net-zero targets. While it is just one of several methods being used to offset emissions, it provides multiple environmental benefits including expanding native woodlands, creating critical habitats, and strengthening wildlife corridors.
