Made to measure

Radar level transmitters are designed to allow simple and reliable non-contact measurements of fluids and solids in metal tanks. In recent years, there have been major technological advances in this form of measurement technique.

One of the latest innovations is Siemens Automation and Drives’ Sitrans LR460 – a four-wire 24Ghz FMCW (frequency modulated continuous wave) radar level transmitter, built on the award-winning Sitrans LR400 platform.

The new instrument – which has a measurement range of up to 100m – has been specially developed for solids applications, including aggregates, where extreme dust and high temperatures are common.

A key feature of the LR460 is its automatic response to changing materials, slope conditions and physical silo features, such as fixed obstructions and build-up. This ensures a fast and reliable continuous measurement of materials during static, discharge and filling conditions. The radar level transmitter also features a built-in Easy Aimer, which positions the instrument in the best position available for the measurement of materials with sloping surfaces, thereby improving the return signal quality.

Optional self-cleaning purging connections and dust-covers are available to prevent any sticky solids from building up inside the antenna.
