Land-Drill Geotechnics choose Ingersoll Rand compressors

Livingston-based Land-Drill Geotechnics Ltd have acquired four new Ingersoll Rand 17/235 portable compressors to provide compressed air for their drilling and boring machines, for site investigation and mineral exploration.

Supplied by Doosan Infracore Portable Power, the new machines are more compact than the previous compressors used by Land-Drill, but offer a higher output in terms of volume and pressure.

Powered by a 255kW Cummins 6IRQ9AE six-cylinder water-cooled diesel-engine, the 17/235 can provide a free air delivery of 23.5m3/min at 17.2 bar, with ample air for cleaning holes created by the company’s fleet of drill rigs.

As with all Doosan compressors, service areas on the 17/235 unit have been carefully designed with a good layout for the cool-box to provide ease of inspection, maintenance and repair. There is also easy access to the air and oil filters, while remaining areas, such as the side-by-side coolers, can be reached through the bolted panels on the compressor enclosure.

The mechanical control of the inlet and oil temperature valves has been optimized with fuel efficiency and durability in mind, and there is an intuitively placed backlit gauge on the control panel.

Stephen Glover, managing director of Land-Drill, commented: ‘The higher free air delivery and operating pressure are added bonuses for our drilling operation, with more air for hole cleaning and increased-productivity drilling. This provides dependable high performance, increasing the efficiency and flexibility of the services we offer to our customers.’
