LAFARGE UK have announced that they are to be the main sponsors of the first-ever Global Business of Biodiversity Symposium, which takes place at the London ExCel International Conference Centre on 13 July 2010.
The event is expected to be the largest biodiversity conference to be organized anywhere in the world to date, providing an important meeting place for government, businesses and NGOs operating across all industrial sectors to discuss the impact of biodiversity on the construction industry and the steps businesses can take to reverse the decline in biodiversity.
As part of the symposium programme, Lafarge UK will be hosting the official pre-event site visit on Monday 12 July at their Panshanger Estate, in Hertfordshire. This visit will allow delegates attending the conference to see a ‘live’ example of business contributing to enhancing biodiversity at an operational quarry set in a Grade II* listed landscape.
Robert Whetstone, managing director of Lafarge Aggregate & Concrete, commented: ‘Our Panshanger Estate is a fantastic example of the contribution business can make to meeting the need of enhancing biodiversity while meeting the challenges of a modern, growing society.
‘This has been achieved by working closely with a range of wildlife groups, conservation organizations and through our own full-time experts, who dedicate time and resource to understanding and managing our natural environment, and carefully planning, over the long term, to create new, diverse and natural habitats.’
