Lafarge to sell Italian operations

LAFARGE have announced the divestment of their wholly owned cement, aggregates and concrete activities in Italy to the Sacci Group for an enterprise value of €290 million.

Lafarge have been present in the Italian market since 1996, operating two cement plants in the Lombardia and Abruzzo regions, four cement terminals along the east coast of the country and 13 ready-mixed concrete plants and three aggregates quarries in Abruzzo.

In 2007, Lafarge reported sales of €116 million and EBITDA of €18 million from these activites.

Sacci is a Rome-based a family-owned Italian group which employs around 550 staff and runs operations across Italy, including four cement plants, 31 ready-mixed concrete plants and interests in transportation and environmental services.

Subject to Italian antitrust authority approval, the transaction is expected to be completed before the end of 2008.
