Increase operational efficiency with new Siemens products

Siemens Sinamics V20 inverter

Siemens Drive Technologies have announced a number of new product developments designed to help plants increase operational efficiency. The company’s Sinamics drives, Simogear geared motors and Simotics XP range are just some of the latest innovations that now provide additional benefits for users looking to increase productivity and improve operational efficiency.

Moreover, developments to the Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) Portal mean it now allows seamless integration of drive systems, ensuring a complete solution for efficient plant automation.

Andrew Peters, divisional director for Siemens Drive Technologies, commented: ‘These comprehensive product enhancements offer significant benefits to our customers. They have all been designed to ensure plants can continue to increase operational efficiencies and represent our ongoing commitment to helping those in industry drive savings across their sites.’

The Sinamics V20 inverter is a new single-axis drive for basic applications. The compact and rugged inverter offers short commissioning times, simple operation and high cost-effectiveness. It comes in four sizes to cover a performance range from 0.12kW to 15kW and is used to operate pumps, fans, compressors and conveyors in the processing and materials handling industries.

Siemens have also expanded their Simogear range with the addition of new two-stage worm geared motors and gearboxes with special input units for the installation of IEC standard motors. In addition, IE3 efficiency-class motors are now available.

Siemens are also adding new flameproof explosion-protected motors (IE2-efficiency-class) to their Simotics XP portfolio. The 1MD5 motors allow pumps, fans, compressors and mixers to be operated safely in areas with potential explosive hazards while reducing energy consumption.

A further expansion is the power of liquid-cooled built-in units for the Sinamics S120 converter series. The power limit of the individual units has been increased from 1,500kW to 1,700kW, and by means of parallel connection up to 6,460kW can be achieved, allowing the converters to cover an even wider range of applications. Moreover, they are well suited to applications with a high power requirement due to their compact design and innovative cooling concepts. The liquid-cooled units are also suitable for use in confined spaces, eg marine drives, and harsh environments, such as the mining industry.

Finally, the latest version of Siemens’ TIA Portal gives users the opportunity to commission and configure drives within the Sinamics G120 family using the Sinamics Startdrive, allowing seamless integration for efficient operation.
