Imerys expand fleet with MAN
Imerys Minerals have invested in five MAN TGA tractor units as part of their fleet-modernization programme. Three 26.430 6x2 BLS vehicles and two 18.430 4x2 BLS units, all fitted with top of the range XXL cabs, are in service carrying locally extracted slurry and bulk powder for the company.
Imerys decided to update their truck fleet after positive feedback from local hauliers on the MAN TGA’spower and driveability. Gavin Fox, Imerys Minerals’ transport manager, explained:‘The best independent advice you can get is from those who actually run trucks. We’d seen some impressive press reports on the economy, weight, and reliability of the MAN D20 engine and were keen to know more. Local truck operators such as CRW backed up these press claims with Imerys expand fleet with MAN evidence of the D20’s performance and productivity. This really clinched it for MAN.’
Lorry capacity and performance are key factors in the economic success of a haulier. The less a truck weighs, the more it can carry. With a D20 engine, the TGA weighs 100kg less than its predecessor. This reduction in weight has been made possible through the use of lighter materials such as synthetics, aluminium, and high-strength GJV 450 cast material.
The D20 has also been designed with the environment in mind. The common rail powered D20 uses exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology that meets the Euro 4 and future Euro 5 legislation.
