Heidelberg Materials welcome new graduates and apprentices
2023 intake of 11 graduates and 10 apprentices participate in three-day induction event
HEIDELBERG Materials have welcomed their 2023 intake of graduate management trainees and higher apprentices. The 21-strong team – 11 graduates and 10 apprentices – took part in a three-day induction event where were welcomed by chief executive officer Simon Willis, who gave an overview of the business and the outlook for the year ahead before answering questions.
The new starters also heard from a range of business functions, took part in team-building exercises, and were given a presentation by construction mental health and well-being charity Mates in Mind.
Heidelberg Materials’ graduate management programme aims to develop future business leaders by providing skills training in specific business lines and awareness of other areas across the company. This year’s intake will be training in aggregates, asphalt, cement, concrete, finance, and on new programmes based in marine and at the company’s customer service centre.
The company’s three-year higher apprenticeship in mineral products technology is run in partnership with the University of Derby, with the option of a top-up to a BSc (Hons) Minerals Management degree.
Chris Thomas, a new recruit on the graduate scheme, said: ‘It’s a really good opportunity with a good company. I did my university placement year in an engineering management graduate role here and really enjoyed it, going to different places and meeting a lot of people.
‘I’m really looking forward to getting down to the quarry and learning how asphalt is made. I want to get around as much as I can and see different sites and parts of the company to broaden my knowledge on everything. I feel good about my future. We will see where it all takes me.’
Applications for next year’s intake open on 17 November 2023.
